The mentorship that should have existed from day one.
Built by three board-certified PMHNPs still actively practicing. Designed for the clinical reality that school never prepared you for.
You passed your boards.
Nobody prepared you for what came next.
The first year of PMHNP practice is the most vulnerable year of your career. You are making independent prescribing decisions, managing complex psychiatric cases, and navigating legal and documentation requirements that your graduate program touched on briefly — if at all.
In our combined years of clinical practice and teaching, we have never met a new PMHNP who felt ready for what the first year actually looks like. Not one.
Lumina exists because we were those PMHNPs. And we built the program we wished had existed when we were starting out.
Three founders. One shared mission.
We are not retired educators. We are actively practicing PMHNPs who built Lumina because the gap in clinical mentorship is real — and we have lived on both sides of it.
Cinthya Knapper
Doctorate-prepared PMHNP with experience across the full psychiatric continuum — crisis, inpatient, outpatient, and SUD care. Clinical manager and graduate faculty. She brings both sides of psychiatric practice to everything Lumina teaches.
Tisha Romero
Board-certified PMHNP with experience spanning crisis, voluntary and involuntary inpatient, observation, and outpatient practice. Her clinical breadth across settings gives her a perspective few providers have.
Laura Gatz
Board-certified PMHNP and former Pediatric ICU and NICU RN. Her dual background as a clinician and educator shapes the mentorship model at the core of everything Lumina builds.
Everything the first year actually requires.
